Stage 1 - Visioning
2004-05

The WRON vision was initially discussed amongst the parties to the CRC for Catchment Hydrology as part of its Centre re-bid process through 2004.
The vision was formalised in a discussion paper dated July 2005.

Stage 2 - Alliance-building
2005-06

Through a series of bi-lateral discussions and planning meetings, the WRON Alliance was formed.
This is an informal group of agencies that are committed to revolutionising the way we collect, use and present water resources information.

2006 - 2009

Various R&D organisations involved in the WRON Alliance are investing in research and development to underpin the WRON.

Stage 4 - Business Plan
2006

A Business Plan is being developed, setting out the value proposition for the WRON, a list of priority activities and a governance structure for the WRON Alliance.

Stage 5 - Demonstrators
2006 - 2009

The WRON Alliance plans to collaborate with various end-users of water resources information by establishing demonstrator projects in a number of jurisdictions.

Stage 6 - Implementation
2010 - 2016

Pending a successful outcome of the WRON Foundation Research and WRON Demonstrators programs, it is envisaged that various WRON tools and strategies will be operationalised by Australian water agencies.
